MorseHub

Set up MorseHub

Setup is over ADB. You need a computer with ADB, a USB cable that carries data, and the invite code from your email.

Step 1: Turn on ADB

Sonim XP3plus, XP5plus and XP5900: in Settings, open About phone and press Build number 7 times. Then turn on USB debugging in Developer options.

Light Phone II: LightOS has no USB debugging switch, so you need ADB working on it already. ADB turns off again when the phone restarts. MorseHub keeps running without it.

Plug the phone in and check that it shows up. Accept the prompt on the phone if it asks.

adb devices

Step 2: Install the app

Download MorseHub for Android

Then, in the folder where the file landed:

adb install morsehub.apk

Step 3: Grant what it needs

Paste these all at once, or one line at a time.

adb shell pm grant cc.chrismartin.morsehub android.permission.RECEIVE_SMS
adb shell pm grant cc.chrismartin.morsehub android.permission.READ_SMS
adb shell pm grant cc.chrismartin.morsehub android.permission.SEND_SMS
adb shell pm grant cc.chrismartin.morsehub android.permission.READ_CONTACTS
adb shell pm grant cc.chrismartin.morsehub android.permission.READ_PHONE_STATE
adb shell pm grant cc.chrismartin.morsehub android.permission.READ_CALL_LOG
adb shell dumpsys deviceidle whitelist +cc.chrismartin.morsehub
adb shell appops set cc.chrismartin.morsehub WRITE_SMS allow
adb shell appops set cc.chrismartin.morsehub REQUEST_INSTALL_PACKAGES allow
The six permissions
Read and send texts, and show contact names and incoming calls on the computer. The app asks for these on screen too. Granting them here saves the taps.
deviceidle whitelist
Lets MorseHub keep running while the phone sleeps, so texts reach the computer on time.
WRITE_SMS
Texts you read on the computer show as read on the phone. MorseHub does not become your texting app. The phone's own messages app keeps working.
REQUEST_INSTALL_PACKAGES
Lets the app update itself on a Light Phone II. Sonim phones block in-app updates either way.

Step 4: Enter your invite code

From your email. It only fills in the command below. It is not sent anywhere.

adb shell am start -n cc.chrismartin.morsehub/.SetupActivity --es relay https://morsehub.net --es invite MH-XXXX-XXXX

The phone registers, asks for anything still missing, then starts copying your texts up, locked.

Or open MorseHub on the phone and type the code there. Leave the relay as it is.

Step 5: Connect a computer

On the phone, open MorseHub and choose Add a computer. It shows a code that works once, for 10 minutes. On the computer, open the pairing page and type it.

Pair this computer

Add more computers the same way, from the phone or from Settings on a computer you already paired.

Updates

Light Phone II: the app updates itself. When a new version is out, MorseHub on your computer shows Update phone, and the phone asks to install it.

Sonim phones: Sonim's installer blocks in-app updates, so updates go over ADB. Download the new app from this page, then run:

adb install -r morsehub.apk

The -r keeps your texts and settings.

Stuck

Email support@morsehub.net with your phone model and what the screen says.
